Hash Generator

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256/384/512 of any text.

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 will appear here. MD5 & SHA-1 are fast and NOT suitable for passwords.

About the Hash Generator

Compute the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 digests of any text simultaneously, updating as you type. An uppercase option formats the hex output for systems that expect it, and everything is hashed locally with the Web Crypto API and a JS MD5 implementation.

How to use the Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste the text to hash into the editor.
  2. Read all five digests as they appear โ€” MD5 through SHA-512.
  3. Tick Uppercase output if the receiving system expects capital hex.
  4. Copy the algorithm output you need from its labeled box.

Hash Generator FAQ

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 is the modern default for checksums and identifiers; SHA-384 and SHA-512 suit higher-security needs, while MD5 and SHA-1 remain only for legacy compatibility โ€” the tool itself warns they are not suitable for passwords.

Is hashing the same as encryption?

No. A hash is a one-way fingerprint โ€” the input cannot be recovered from it โ€” whereas encryption is reversible with a key; use the AES tool when you need to decrypt later.

Can I hash files here?

This tool accepts text only; for files use the separate File Checksum tool, which reads files locally and produces the same SHA family digests.
