About the Keyboard Key Info

Press any key and see event.key, event.code, the legacy keyCode and active modifiers such as Ctrl + Shift instantly, with a giant display of the pressed key. A history table keeps the last twelve key events, and shortcuts are intercepted on the page so even Tab and F-keys can be inspected.

How to use the Keyboard Key Info

  1. Click somewhere on the page and press any key โ€” no input focus needed.
  2. Read the four tiles: event.key, event.code, event.keyCode and modifiers.
  3. Check the Recent keys table for the last twelve events in order.
  4. Try modifier combos and special keys like Tab, Enter or F5 to see their codes.

Keyboard Key Info FAQ

What is the difference between key and code?

event.key is the produced character and changes with layout and modifiers, while event.code is the physical key position, which stays KeyA regardless of layout โ€” both are shown for every press.

Is keyCode still worth looking at?

It is deprecated but still used in older code and libraries, so the legacy numeric value is displayed alongside the modern properties.

Why are my browser shortcuts not working here?

The page intentionally captures keydown events while the tool is open so every key is measurable; they return to normal once you leave the page.
