About the Number to Words

How to use the Number to Words

  1. Type a number such as 1234567 or -42.5.
  2. Read the spelled-out result in the In words box.
  3. Tick Check-writing style to phrase it as dollars and cents.
  4. Copy the text for invoices, checks or legal documents.

Number to Words FAQ

How large a number is supported?

Scales run from thousand up to sextillion, and the arithmetic uses BigInt, so values beyond the usual JavaScript safe-integer range still spell out correctly.

How are decimals handled?

The fractional part is read digit by digit after the word point โ€” 3.14 becomes three point one four โ€” while the check-writing mode instead treats two decimals as cents.

What does check-writing style produce?

For 1234.56 it outputs One thousand two hundred thirty-four dollars and fifty-six cents, pluralizing dollar and cent correctly for single units.
