Sort Lines
Sort text lines alphabetically, by length, numerically or shuffle.
โAbout the Sort Lines
Rearrange any list of lines without a spreadsheet. Sort alphabetically in either direction, by line length, by the first number found in each line, or shuffle and reverse the order entirely. A case-insensitive comparison option keeps mixed-capitalization lists from separating, and numeric awareness puts item2 before item10.
How to use the Sort Lines
- Paste your items into the editor, one per line.
- Choose a sort order from the dropdown: A to Z, Z to A, short to long, long to short, numerically, shuffle or reverse.
- Leave Case-insensitive comparison on for plain text lists; turn it off when uppercase entries must sort first.
- Copy the reordered list from the Result box.
Sort Lines FAQ
How does numeric sorting work?
The tool extracts the first number in each line and orders lines by that value, so 3 apples sorts before 10 apples instead of after it.
What is the difference between shuffle and reverse?
Shuffle randomizes the line order every time it runs, which is useful for raffles or test data, while reverse simply flips the current order top to bottom.
Are numbers inside lines ordered naturally?
Yes. Alphabetical modes use a numeric-aware collator, so entry2 comes before entry10 rather than entry10 landing between entry1 and entry2.
