HTML Entities
Encode/decode HTML entities, named and numeric.
โโAbout the HTML Entities
Encode text into HTML entities or decode entities back into characters. Basic mode covers the five markup-critical characters, extended mode adds named entities for symbols like ยฉ, โข, โฌ and mdash, and the all mode converts every non-ASCII character to numeric &#xโฆ; references.
How to use the HTML Entities
- Choose a tab: Basic, Extended, or All non-ASCII.
- Paste your text or markup into the editor.
- Copy the Encoded output for safe embedding in HTML.
- To decode, paste entity-encoded text in the same input and read the Decoded box below.
HTML Entities FAQ
Which characters does basic mode escape?
Exactly the five that matter for markup safety: & becomes &, < becomes <, > becomes >, the double quote becomes " and the apostrophe becomes '.
When should I use numeric entities?
Use the all non-ASCII mode when targeting systems with limited character sets โ it converts every character above code point 127 to a &#xโฆ; reference that survives any encoding.
Can it decode named entities too?
Yes. Decoding understands both named forms like and numeric forms like ', matching what browsers accept in real documents.
