About the Image to Base64
Convert any image into a Base64 data URL you can embed directly in HTML, CSS or JSON โ no separate file, no extra request. Useful for small icons, inline SVGs-adjacent PNGs, email templates and single-file demos. Everything is encoded locally in your browser.
How to use the Image to Base64
- Click the dropzone or drag an image onto it โ PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and SVG all work.
- Copy the full data URL from the output panel.
- Use the CSS background or HTML img snippets if you want a ready-made embedding pattern.
- Switch to the "Base64 โ Image" tab to decode a data URL back into a downloadable image.
Image to Base64 FAQ
Why is the Base64 version larger than my file?
Base64 encodes every 3 bytes into 4 characters, so the payload grows by roughly a third. The tool shows the exact overhead percentage so you can decide whether inlining is worth it.
When should I inline an image instead of linking it?
Inline small icons and above-the-fold graphics to save a network request. Keep large photos as separate files โ browsers cannot cache or lazy-load an inlined data URL.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read with the browser FileReader API and encoded in memory. Nothing leaves your device.
