Text Cleaner
Strip invisible chars, smart quotes and unicode oddities.
โAbout the Text Cleaner
Fix text that arrived from PDFs, Word documents or web pages. One pass removes zero-width and invisible characters, converts smart quotes and dashes to plain ASCII, applies Unicode NFC normalization, and optionally collapses repeated spaces and repairs line endings. A counter reports exactly how many problem characters were stripped.
How to use the Text Cleaner
- Paste the copied text into the editor.
- Keep the first three toggles on to remove invisible characters, straighten smart quotes and normalize Unicode.
- Tick Collapse repeated spaces or Fix line endings and trailing spaces for messier input.
- Copy the cleaned text; the note below says how many characters were removed or confirms none were found.
Text Cleaner FAQ
Which invisible characters are removed?
Zero-width spaces and joiners, the byte order mark, word joiners and soft hyphens โ the hidden code points that commonly sneak in from PDFs and break search or parsing.
What do smart quotes become?
Curly single and double quotes turn into straight characters, en and em dashes become a plain hyphen, and the ellipsis character becomes three periods.
How do I know it worked?
Below the output a note either reports the exact number of characters removed or tells you no problematic characters were present.
