About the Statistics Calculator

Paste a list of numbers and get the complete descriptive statistics: count, sum, mean, median, mode, min, max, range, standard deviation, variance, first and third quartiles and the interquartile range. Numbers can be separated by commas, spaces or newlines, and a toggle switches between population and sample formulas.

How to use the Statistics Calculator

  1. Paste numbers into the editor โ€” commas, spaces or line breaks all work as separators.
  2. Read the stat tiles for mean, median, standard deviation and more.
  3. Toggle Sample statistics when your data is a sample rather than a whole population.
  4. Open the Summary box for the sorted dataset and every value in one list.

Statistics Calculator FAQ

What is the difference between sample and population mode?

Variance and standard deviation divide by n for a population but by n โˆ’ 1 for a sample, which corrects for bias when estimating from a subset โ€” the checkbox label shows which is active.

How are quartiles calculated?

By linear interpolation between order statistics: the quartile position is (n โˆ’ 1) ร— p and the value is interpolated between the two nearest sorted data points.

What if no value repeats?

The mode line reports no repeated values instead of inventing one; when several values tie for most frequent, all of them are listed. Your numbers never leave the browser.
