About the Color Palette
Build color palettes from a single base color using classic harmony rules — complementary, analogous, triadic, tetradic, split-complementary and monochromatic. Every swatch is one click away from becoming the new base, so you can iterate quickly.
How to use the Color Palette
- Pick a base color with the color input or paste a hex value.
- Choose a harmony scheme — for example Triadic gives three evenly spaced hues.
- Click any generated swatch to rebase the palette on that color.
- Copy the whole palette as a comma-separated hex list.
Color Palette FAQ
How are the harmony colors computed?
In HSL space: the hue rotates by fixed offsets (180° for complementary, 120° and 240° for triadic), while saturation and lightness stay near the base. Monochromatic instead shifts lightness up and down.
How many colors does each scheme produce?
Complementary gives 2 colors, analogous 3, triadic 3, tetradic 4, split-complementary 3 and monochromatic 5 — matching the classic color-theory definitions.
Can I check accessibility of the palette?
Use the Contrast Checker tool — paste any palette hex in as the foreground and test it against your background color for WCAG AA/AAA compliance.
